How John Paul Soto end up in Charlotte NC?
In my personal life, I consider myself a very bless person, with nothing to complain about. Born and race in Guatemala City, I decided to move to Charlotte back 2002 at the age of 18 and make this beautiful city my home. I move to the US with the intention of joining the US Marine Corps and work on getting a collage degree. Since my father and brother, both had the opportunity to serve this country, I felt a strong desired to do the same. However, do to different fortunate circumstances I was not able to join. I was pretty disappointed and discourage, I have been dreaming of been a Marine since I was kid.
From Cook to bus boy to server…
However, this was not enough to stop my desired to succeed! With little English, little money and living with my older sister, I decided to stay and fined a job. I went door by door looking for a job, I looked for days…. With a lot of experience in basically nothing, I was having a hard time getting anything. Finally, after several days of looking I was hire at a Italian restaurant as a cook. However, I did not stop looking! Shortly after I got hired at this Italian restaurant I was hire as a bass boy in a hotel in uptown Charlotte. At this particular job I was able to work over time, this gave me the opportunity to after only 3 month get a promotion to server. Remember, I was working from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the hotel and from 4 p.m. to midnight at the restaurant, I am not complaining at 18 years old I felt like I was making a lot of money! This give me the opportunity to purchase my first car! Up to this day I had been riding a used bicycle that I bought at a pond-shop when I first started working. I finally make the decision to stop working at the Italian restaurant and started working only at the hotel.
From sever to a Firefighter…
It was at this hotel that I had the blessing of meeting a Charlotte Firefighter… One morning he approached me and ask me if I have ever though of joining the Fire Department? Honestly, I never did, not even once…
After talking to him about the job, I decided to apply to the Charlotte Fire Department. The day of the test there were over 1500 people trying to get just about 60 positions! I thought to myself this most be something good!?… I took the test, and pass!!! went true the long process and got hired!!! I got hired as a firefighter exactly one year after I moved to Charlotte… January 28, 2003. I was one of 4 Latinos Firefighters in Charlotte at that time, from almost a 1,000 firefighters that the city has. I kept my job as a waiter for the hotel part time fro a little over a year after I started working at the Fire Department. Finally, I was able to join school, and got some one to pay for it!!!. I finish my 2 year degree in Fire Technology in December of 2008!!! and know planing to go for my 4 year degree in Financial Planning…
Firefighter and a Realtor….
I have a great desire to be successful, to be the best I can and to never stop making myself better. Even dough I have found a career as a Firefighter, a career that I love! I had the desired of doing something else. With our wonderful schedule at the Fire Department I have the opportunity of doing something else.
After researching and thinking over and over on what to do? I finally make the decision of getting into Real Estate. I have to admit, I though it was going to be easy job… and I was WRONG!… However, it is in Real Estate that I have found my passion! Real Estate has giving me the opportunity to challenge myself, to learn new ways of been a better person and to know that everything that you work hard for is so much more rewarding. I has giving me opportunity to meet wonderful people, and in the process help other with the biggest transaction of their life. I found that Real Estate is one of the most rewarding jobs and one of the most stress full ones too. I absolutely love what I do and plan to make a career out of Real Estate as well!

As I told you before, I am a very bless guy. In 2007 I met the most incredible, intelligent and beautiful woman in the world, Sonia! and I recently had the honor of marring her. Together we have three babies (dogs) Charlie, Louie and Lucy. We enjoy dancing, camping, hiking, having fun with friends and spending time together. Regardless of how busy I am, God and my family comes first!
